Kip & Morgan

"This song is a demonstration of the power of a lust that cannot be fulfilled and an imagination so vivid that the lines of reality and fantasy are blurred. Moore’s rich vocals evoke an addictive, trance-like state as he considers the option to act on his desires."

Towards the end of August 2022 Kip Moore started teasing a new song on his social media. Causing even more excitement among his fans when on August 26 he not only released the new song, but also the accompanying video with it. Only - to be confronted with big disappointment the next moment.

A disappointment that was not triggered by the song titled 'If I Was Your Lover', which he co-wrote with Matt Bubel, but by the PJ Brown produced video. For it not only had the singer/songwriter acting in it, but also newcomer Morgan Wade as the subject of his longing desire.

Hence what should be more obvious than also hearing her voice on the song. But as Casey Young of whiskeyriff.com put it: "Her vocals were not featured at all on the actual song. And I’m not gonna lie… I was pretty disappointed, because it is, quite literally, my dream collaboration."

While the thumping cut about unfullfilled desires did only receive favorably reviews, there seemed to ensue deliberations behind curtains. Or maybe it was planned that way anyways right from the beginning, because 3 weeks later, on September 16, MCA Nashville released a new version of the song - this time subtitling it: feat. Morgan Wade.

The official press release for it stated: "Following fervent fan requests for Wade to feature vocally, the pair hit the studio together to re-record the song." The result adds some more shining to the song, even though Morgan Wade can only be heard on 2 lines, while staying in the background for the rest of the song.

her vocals were not featured at all on the actual song.

And I’m not gonna lie… I was pretty disappointed, because it is, quite literally, my dream collaboration.
