One Of Those?

"There is no doubt that this chapter of my life has been the hardest.  But I firmly believe you go through things so you can really grow. If you keep your faith, it can grow you in ways that you won’t believe."

(Tucker Beathard / americansongwriter.com, August 21, 2020)

It's been over 2 years, that Tucker Beathard has released new music. Yet the soon to be 28-year old singer and songwriter is signed by Warner Music Nashville. For the latter his father (renowned songwriter Casey Beathard) may have been supportive. The former is clearly owed to difficult personal times. After all his 22-year old brother lost his life in a bar altercation in December of 2019.

That's why his second (and latest) album from 2020 was dedicated to his brother, by naming it after him ("KING"). In addition Tucker Beathard turned father for the first time. Alltogether, enough emotional challenges to take his focus off his music career for a while.

His sole hit to date ('Rock On' - a number 2 on the radio [Billboard Country Airplay] chart) goes back to 2016. Now Tucker Beathard is ready to report back. On November 4, 'One Of Those' becomes his first new single in over 2 years. Written together with Ben Stennis and Jeff Hyde, the mid-tempo song with its frightening undertow and the eerie echo-effects, poses the reproachful question: Are you one of those?

In the press release that came with the new song, Tucker Beathard states: "I’ve always loved the quote ‘If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything’. It’s important to know what you believe and why you believe it, because when adversity comes or shit hits the fan the last place you wanna be is on the fence or in the gray. There’s a lot of people that will talk the talk, but only a few who will stick to their guns and walk the walk."

Are you one of them sittin' in the boat tryin' not to rock it
or one of them that goes along just to get along.
Only change you like is the kind in your blue-jean pocket,
keeps your two cents to yourself till the chance to speak up is gone.

Or are you one of those don't back down for nothin',
one of those standing up strong for somethin',
walkin' the walk even if you gotta walk it alone.
Are you one of those?

Over for you

"Seated at a piano onstage, Evans delivered a heartbreaking performance with lyrics that set a scene of a man blindsided by his lover’s decision to end the relationship. Evans made no personal comments before or after the song."   ( Jessica Nicholson / billboard.com, September 26, 2022)

Alabama: "The Closer You Get" [Album]

The band Alabama has probably been the most influental musical act in my life and responsible for converting me to country music for good. Their slight rock and pop influences created a whole new vibe for country music and as we know, they were the first (at least successful) self contained country band; meaning they played all their instruments themselves, even during recordings most of the time. At live shows, they were not merely singing like successful groups such as the Oak Ridge Boys or the Statler Brothers had done before them, but as a band they were also playing their own instruments.

Wranglers

"On February 18, 2001, Dale Earnhardt Sr., considered one of the greatest drivers in NASCAR history, dies at the age of 49 in a last-lap crash at the 43rd Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach, Florida. After being cut from his car, Earnhardt, whose tough, aggressive driving style earned him the nickname “The Intimidator,” was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead of head injuries."
